A motorcyclist was killed on the night of his own birthday in a crash on West Montgomery Road in north Houston, after a white Toyota Camry turned left into his path and threw him from his bike. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Toyota's driver was taken to a hospital.
The crash happened in the 8500 block of West Montgomery Road, according to Click2Houston. Investigators told the outlet the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound when the Camry made a left turn and collided with the motorcycle, ejecting the rider from the bike. Houston Fire Department crews responded to the scene and pronounced him dead there.
Police said the man was killed on his birthday, October 7 — a grim coincidence confirmed in the same report. Click2Houston identified the motorcyclist as 62 years old, though Houston Stringer reported he was turning 64, a discrepancy that remains unresolved between the two outlets' accounts.
Driver's Condition and Impairment Claims Differ
The driver of the Toyota was reported to be 31 years old. Per Click2Houston's report, he was taken to an area hospital in stable condition. Houston Stringer, however, offered a different version of events, reporting that the 31-year-old driver showed signs of impairment and was taken for further investigation rather than hospital treatment for his own injuries.
West Montgomery Road's Recent Crash History
In March, Houston police investigated a fatal crash at 6199 West Montgomery Road that killed a 46-year-old man, according to a notice from the Houston Police Department.
The crash also lands amid a broader pattern of motorcycle risk across the state. Texas was ranked the second-most dangerous state in the country for motorcycle riders in 2025, behind only Hawaii, according to the Austin American-Statesman. The newspaper reported that 574 people died in motorcycle-related crashes statewide in 2022, a rate of 14.56 fatalities per 10,000 registered motorcycles, and that nearly half of drivers involved in fatal motorcycle crashes were speeding while 44.99% were found to be under the influence of alcohol.
For now, the exact circumstances of Wednesday's crash on West Montgomery Road remain under investigation, with police still working to pin down fault and the full picture of what happened in the moments before the fatal left turn.
