A shooting in the 700 block of East Crosstimbers Street sent one person to the hospital in the early hours of Sunday, with Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constables called to the scene just after 2 a.m. A black SUV was towed away as investigators worked to piece together what happened.
Deputy constables responded to the reported shooting at 2:19 a.m. Sunday, according to Houston Stringer. The Houston Fire Department transported one person to a local hospital, though that person's injuries and condition were unknown at the time of the report, per the same outlet. As OnScene TV also reported, the circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately available, and authorities had not released additional information at the scene.
Black SUV Towed, Its Role Still Unclear
A black SUV was cleared and towed from the scene, the Stringer's report noted, though its connection to the shooting has not been confirmed. Precinct 6 officers remained on scene conducting an investigation, and no further details about a possible suspect, motive, or arrest were available in initial reporting.
The East Crosstimbers shooting comes as Houston's violent crime numbers have been trending downward citywide this year. Houston recorded 95 homicides in the first half of 2026, a 38% drop from the 154 counted over the same stretch in 2025, according to Axios. The same report found robberies down nearly 27%, aggravated assaults down more than 17%, and rape cases down about 20% through the first half of the year.
Citywide Declines Don't Explain Every Incident
Earlier data told a similar story: Houston reported 49 murders in the first quarter of 2026, a 36.4% decrease from the same period a year earlier, per Houston Public Media. That outlet also noted that overall violent crime fell 18.9% from 2024 to 2025, and that 67 people died on Houston roadways in the first quarter of 2026, more than the number of reported murders during that span. Those figures reflect citywide patterns and don't speak to conditions on any single block, including East Crosstimbers Street.
Shootings have continued to surface in other pockets of the Houston area this year. SWAT responded to a shooting at a southeast Houston house where a man was hospitalized, according to ABC13 Houston. The station also reported that a shooting near a sports complex in northeast Harris County left one person dead and three others injured, citing the sheriff's office.
No further details have emerged on the East Crosstimbers shooting since Sunday morning. Investigators had not disclosed the hospitalized person's identity or condition, nor confirmed what role, if any, the towed SUV played in the incident.
