Armed intruders broke into two separate homes in Northeast Washington weeks apart, stealing vehicles and assaulting residents in attacks that included an attempted sexual assault, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Investigators are now asking the public for help identifying multiple persons of interest connected to both break-ins and are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
The first incident happened on September 19 at approximately 5:51 a.m. in the 1900 block of D Street Northeast, according to a release detailed by einpresswire.com. Armed with a firearm, the intruders forced their way into an occupied home and found the resident in the basement before stealing property, including the victim's vehicle keys, and fleeing in the resident's own vehicle. That vehicle has since been recovered, police said.
A Second, More Violent Break-In on Sigsbee Place
Just over two weeks later, on October 2 at around 7:50 p.m., a separate set of persons of interest knocked on the door of a home in the 1000 block of Sigsbee Place Northeast and forced their way inside once it was opened, per the same account. The intruders assaulted both occupants and took their vehicle keys before fleeing in the victims' car, escaping before officers arrived on scene, according to the report.
Among the most disturbing details: one of the armed persons of interest assaulted a victim and attempted to engage that victim in what police described as an unwanted forced sexual act, according to the police account relayed by einpresswire.com. The report does not indicate whether the two burglaries, which happened roughly two weeks apart in the same quadrant of the city, were committed by the same people.
The vehicle taken from the Sigsbee Place home is described as a silver 2015 Honda CHV, last seen displaying D.C. tag FX2120, per the police account. WJLA described the same vehicle as a silver 2015 Honda SUV, a discrepancy in vehicle type that has not been resolved between the two accounts.
Surveillance Images and a Reward on the Table
Surveillance cameras captured images of the persons of interest in both incidents, according to the report. Police are asking anyone who recognizes those captured on camera, or who has other information about either burglary, to take no action themselves and instead contact investigators directly.
Tipsters can call police at (202) 727-9099 or text tips to 50411. MPD currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a violent crime committed anywhere in the District, the department noted in the release.
Part of a Mixed Crime Picture Citywide
The violence described in these two cases comes against a complicated backdrop for the District's crime trends. According to the Council on Criminal Justice, D.C.'s aggravated assault rate rose 45 percent in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year, even as reported motor vehicle theft fell 54 percent over that same stretch. The organization's data also showed the city's gun assault rate up 13 percent, while sexual assault rates declined 10 percent during the same comparison period.
No arrests, charges, or identifications have been reported in connection with either the D Street or Sigsbee Place burglaries as of publication. Anyone with information is urged to come forward through the tip channels MPD has provided.
