A 46-year-old woman is facing charges of aggravated assault and harassment of a peace officer after a structure fire was reported near the intersection of Tidwell Road and Lockwood Drive. The fire was described as intentionally set, and the woman had just left the scene, according to police.
As reported by Houston Stringer, the woman was accused of attacking another woman.
Woman Taken for Medical Clearance
She was taken to a hospital for medical clearance before her arrest, according to police, a step that preceded her formal booking.
While paramedics attempted to place her on a stretcher for firefighters, she allegedly spit on an officer, per the same account. That incident is tied to the harassment of a peace officer charge she now faces, according to police. She was ultimately transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being taken to the Joint Processing Center and booked on the charges, the report notes.
Fire Extinguished Without Injuries, Cause Still Unclear
Houston Fire Department crews extinguished the fire, and officials reported no injuries resulted from the blaze. As Click2Houston reported, the woman was in custody after the fire was reported at a building in northeast Houston, according to police.
The circumstances surrounding the fire remain under investigation, and no determination of arson has been made public. Houston's Arson Bureau responds upon request to more than 1,000 fires annually, roughly 20 percent of the city's reported fire incidents, according to a report from the City of Houston, underscoring how often investigators are called in to examine suspicious blazes across the city.
