A man and a woman were recovering Thursday night after suspects opened fire during a heated confrontation in the 800 block of Grow Lane in northwest Houston, leaving the man wounded in the ankle area and the woman shot in the upper left arm. Both were rushed to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the people responsible fled the scene and remained at large as investigators pieced together what sparked the violence.
Houston Police Department Northwest Division officers responded to the shooting around 9 p.m. Thursday, according to Click2Houston. Police say the trouble began when suspects arrived with a group of people to confront another group already at the location, according to Houston Stringer.
Argument Escalates Into Gunfire
As the dispute escalated, the suspects fired into the group, striking the two victims, the outlet reports. Investigators have not determined what led to the original confrontation, and the reason for the dispute remains unclear, per the same account.
Officers at the scene obtained a description of the suspects' vehicle and broadcast it to nearby patrol units in hopes of tracking down those responsible, the report notes. No arrests had been announced as of Thursday night, and the investigation was ongoing.
Not the First Shooting on This Stretch
This is not the first time Grow Lane has made headlines for gunfire. In May 2025, a man was shot once in the lower body outside an apartment complex on the same street near Highway 290, according to FOX 26 Houston. That shooting, reported around midnight on a Sunday, led to a possible suspect being taken into custody, with police believing it stemmed from a confrontation between the victim and his ex's new boyfriend, though the motive was never confirmed. The victim in that earlier case was expected to recover after being taken to a hospital.
Tracking Gun Violence Citywide
Shootings tied to arguments and confrontations are not unique to this corridor of northwest Houston. The Houston Health Department tracks firearm-injury trends citywide through its SAFEWatch dashboard, which uses data dating back to 2019 and lets users examine patterns by ZIP code, time of day, season, location type and injury severity. The dashboard draws on information from Level I trauma centers, emergency departments, EMS and police and mortality records, according to the Houston Health Department. The department notes that unintentional firearm injuries account for roughly one in five trauma-treated gunshot cases citywide and disproportionately affect children and young adults, though that figure describes broader trends rather than the Grow Lane case specifically.
Anyone with information about Thursday's shooting is urged to contact investigators as the search for the suspects continues.
