The NYPD is asking for help identifying three men who left after a 76-year-old man was struck by a car in the Bronx. The collision happened around 1:45 p.m. on Friday, October 16, near Boone Avenue and East 176th Street in Crotona Park East, according to the New York Daily News.
The man was standing near the rear of his parked vehicle when a 2004 Chrysler Sebring struck him, the Daily News reported. The three men in the Sebring got out after the crash and left in another car; police last saw that vehicle heading south on Boone Avenue. The NYPD has released surveillance images as part of its appeal.
Medics took the injured man to St. Barnabas Hospital. The Daily News reported he was expected to recover, while PIX11 described him as being in stable condition after sustaining multiple injuries. Those are the conditions reported by the outlets; the accounts do not establish a later medical update.
What broader context can—and can’t—show
Age is relevant to pedestrian injury outcomes, but it does not explain this particular crash. A 2022 NYC Department of Transportation study found that older pedestrians were not struck more often than younger pedestrians, but suffered worse outcomes when hit. That is a citywide finding, not a Bronx-specific measure or a prediction of this man’s recovery.
A separate Bronx case offers a limited point of comparison about hit-and-run investigations, not evidence about this one: the Daily News reported that Timiko Young was charged in 2025 in connection with the 2023 hit-and-run death of Jose “Negro” Galan. The cases differ in their circumstances and outcomes, and that report says nothing about the progress of the investigation into the Boone Avenue crash.
Anyone with information about the men is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS; calls are confidential, according to the Daily News. The NYPD also accepts Crime Stoppers tips online.
