Rapper Offset is hospitalized in Florida after being shot outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, with a spokesperson describing his condition as stable while he receives medical care under close monitoring. Gunfire broke out in the resort's valet area on Monday, and the Seminole Police Department confirmed the shooting and detained two people as part of an ongoing investigation.
Second Shooting at the Same Casino Valet in Six Months
According to DancehallMag, authorities have not released the identities of the two people detained, what led up to the shooting, or exactly where Offset was hit. The Seminole Police Department said the site is secure and that there is no threat to the public, though it has not said when it expects to release more information about suspects or a possible motive.
A fatal shooting was reported in the resort's valet area in October 2023. Hoodline previously reported on an April shooting near the casino that left Offset with non-life-threatening injuries. In the April incident, federal investigators said a group confronted and assaulted Offset before firing a single shot and unsuccessfully attempting to steal his watch, fleeing in a matte gray Chevrolet Tahoe and a black Chevrolet Suburban, according to an FBI Miami Field Office update reported by NewsRadio WFLA.
The April Shooting Investigation
The Seminole Hard Rock complex sits on Seminole Tribe of Florida land. The FBI's South Florida Violent Crime and Fugitive Task Force joined the Seminole Police Department in investigating the April shooting, according to the WFLA report.
The April shooting drew national attention in part because New York rapper Lil Tjay was arrested at the scene by Seminole Police and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and driving without a valid license following a physical fight that happened before the gunfire. His attorney denied that he was involved in the shooting. Lil Tjay posted a $3,000 bond and was released from Broward County Jail the following day. Offset was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood and was discharged on April 10.
A Painful Pattern for the Former Migos Member
Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, rose to fame alongside Quavo and Takeoff as Migos emerged from Gwinnett County, Georgia, releasing tracks including Versace and Bad and Boujee that helped make the group a defining Atlanta rap act of the 2010s. Migos earned widespread mainstream recognition after Bad and Boujee reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2016, according to The Independent.
Takeoff, Offset's fellow Migos member and relative, was shot and killed in Houston in November 2022. The murder trial for Patrick Xavier Clark, charged in that killing outside a Houston bowling alley, is expected in November, per Revolt TV.
Since Migos disbanded, Offset has built a solo career, releasing his debut album Father of 4 in 2019 and his second album Set It Off in 2023. He was previously married to Cardi B, with whom he shares children; DancehallMag reported that Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset in 2024.
The Seminole Police Department has not said what led to Monday's shooting or whether it is connected in any way to the earlier incident at the same valet area. Investigators have not released the identities of the two people detained, and the full circumstances of the attack remain unclear as the department continues its investigation.
