Someone kicked in the front door of an Okmulgee home around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, opened fire inside and ran off, leaving a 67-year-old woman with a gunshot wound and a 2-year-old child unharmed. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is now working the case alongside federal agents, asking the public for any information that could identify who pulled the trigger.

Officers responding to the 1100 block of North Osage Avenue found the woman injured inside the residence, according to KFOR. She was taken to a nearby hospital and is listed in stable condition. The child inside the home was not hurt, the outlet reported, citing the OSBI.

Investigators said someone kicked in the home's front door, fired multiple gunshots and then fled the scene before officers arrived, per the same account. No suspect description or motive has been released.

A Second Shooting Tied to the Same Case

OSBI investigators have connected the Osage Avenue shooting to another shooting that happened the day before at a home in the 1600 block of North Chickasaw Avenue, also in Okmulgee. No one was injured in that earlier incident, the station noted. Beyond the address and the reported link between the two cases, few additional details about the Chickasaw Avenue shooting have been made public.

KFOR reported no arrests in one of the shootings. The bureau said it is investigating the shootings together with the Okmulgee Police Department, which originally requested OSBI's help, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. OSBI announced the joint effort in a post on X from its account, @osbi_ok, tagging the Okmulgee Police Department and the ATF and using the hashtag #OneTeamOneMission.

Okmulgee's Recent History of Unsolved Gun Violence

This is not the first time Okmulgee police have turned to the public for help cracking a shooting case. Police previously sought the public's help identifying a person accused of shooting a man during a large gathering at a lake, according to Tulsa World. In a separate homicide case in the city, an adult male victim found deceased near North Alabama Avenue and West Sixth Street was later identified as 45-year-old Warren Tunley, who authorities said suffered an apparent gunshot wound, as detailed by KFOR in its reporting on that case.

Anyone with information about the Osage Avenue or Chickasaw Avenue shootings is asked to contact the OSBI tip line by emailing [email protected] or calling 1-800-522-8017. Tips can also go to the ATF tip line at 1-888-283-8477. Investigators have not said whether any leads have come in since the appeal went out.
