Omaha started Thursday with scattered high clouds and patchy fog underway, and temperatures around 50 degrees, but the city is headed for a sunny afternoon near 78. The quiet stretch will continue into the weekend, though stronger winds and a noticeable cooldown are waiting just beyond it.
Warm Weather Builds Through Saturday
Thursday will be mostly sunny with light winds gradually turning south-southeasterly, followed by a mostly clear night and a low near 62. Friday turns even warmer, with sunshine and a high around 85; south winds could gust to 22 mph.
Saturday stays sunny with a high near 84, but the wind will be the main story. South winds of 12 to 16 mph could produce gusts of 35 to 45 mph across the area, and the National Weather Service said dry, windy conditions could create fire-weather concerns in drier parts of northeast Nebraska.
Cooler Air Arrives Next Week
Sunday remains warm and sunny near 82 before a cold front brings mostly sunny skies and a high around 76 on Monday. Temperatures then slip to about 65 Tuesday, with rain chances increasing Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Wednesday could bring a few rain showers and a high near 68. No watches or warnings are posted for Nebraska or Iowa in the current forecast package.
