Families at the Omaha Children's Museum got a jump on Halloween Friday morning, trading porch lights and darkened sidewalks for a daytime trick-or-treat run through the museum's halls. The early celebration paired candy-grabbing with science shows, potion making and surprise character visits, giving young kids a low-stakes warm-up before the real thing hits Saturday night.
The museum began its Halloween celebrations Friday morning, inviting families to enjoy what organizers called a unique trick-or-treat experience, according to KETV. Science Shows and Potion Making Round Out the Day
Beyond the candy hunt, the day's lineup included special science shows, potion making and a few characters dropping by, the station's report noted. The idea, according to the museum, is to give young kids the perfect chance to learn how to trick-or-treat on their own, in a setting built specifically for first-timers still getting the hang of the holiday.
Museum staffer Emma Ferron framed the timing as a safety choice as much as a scheduling one. “We think it is time for kids to be in the daylight and be in their costumes and be in a safely lit location,” Ferron said, per the same account. She added that the event lets families enjoy nice weather and get candy together with their children.
A Second Chance on Saturday
Families who couldn't make Friday's festivities get another shot this weekend. The Omaha Children's Museum will remain open for its Trick or Treat Weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, giving kids one more opportunity to don costumes and work the museum's halls for treats before Halloween night arrives.
