A 21-year-old Omaha man is facing felony charges after police say a domestic dispute that left a pregnant teenager's car with a shattered windshield spiraled into a stabbing that injured a 17-year-old boy who tried to step in. Officers responding near 35th and L Streets around 10:15 p.m. Saturday found the teenage boy suffering from a stab wound, and he was taken to Nebraska Medicine with non-life-threatening injuries.
Omaha police later arrested Jordan Hintze in connection with the incident, according to KETV. The station reported that the trouble began earlier in the day near 84th and Center Street, when Hintze was involved in a domestic disturbance with a juvenile female victim. The Omaha World-Herald also identified the female as a 17-year-old pregnant girl.
Car Vandalized Before the Stabbing
Regardless of where it started, police say the confrontation escalated dramatically. Hintze allegedly jumped on the hood of the female victim's car, then kicked and punched the windshield until it shattered, per the station's report. The dispute eventually moved toward the area near 35th and L Streets, where it turned violent.
That's when the 17-year-old boy attempted to intervene, according to police, and was stabbed during the fight. The same account notes that officers were called to the scene and discovered the teen with his stab wound before medics transported him for treatment.
Multiple Felony Charges Filed
Hintze was booked at Douglas County Corrections on charges including felony assault, destruction of property and weapons charges, the station's report states.
Nebraska's domestic assault statute, cited by the Nebraska Legislature, defines domestic assault in the first degree as intentionally and knowingly causing serious bodily injury to an intimate partner, an offense classified as a Class ID felony, or a Class IB felony for a person with a qualifying prior conviction. Separately, the state's weapons law, also published by the Nebraska Legislature, outlines that a person commits possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person if they possess a firearm, knife, or brass or iron knuckles while meeting one of several disqualifying conditions, including being subject to a current and valid protection order and knowingly violating it.
Investigation Remains Open
Police have not released formal charging documents, a case number, bond amount or plea information, and the investigation remains ongoing, per the earlier report.
