A man accused of opening fire near a North Omaha motorcycle clubhouse in August is now headed to trial, facing charges of first-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. Daejon Taliaferro, 21, is one of several suspects arrested in connection with the August 15 shooting outside the Los Diablos Motorcycle Clubhouse that left a 21-year-old man critically injured.

No trial date has been set yet, according to KETV, which reports that investigators found a stolen firearm while serving a search warrant connected to the case — evidence that led to an additional weapons charge against Taliaferro. The shooting happened during an after-hours gathering near the clubhouse, and the victim's age and critical condition were confirmed in the days that followed, as reported by WOWT

.

How Detectives Tracked Down the Suspects

Omaha Police Department detectives arrested Taliaferro on August 26 during a SWAT team operation on North 33rd Street, eleven days after the shooting, according to the Omaha Police Department. Police also arrested Armon Jackson at a residence on North 36th Street and booked him for accessory to a felony. Surveillance footage seized during an earlier search warrant helped investigators identify both men, the department said.

The initial search warrant was served at the clubhouse on August 19, when police also arrested 68-year-old Richard Poff, who was living in a camper on the property, on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Poff was not named as a suspect in the shooting itself, per the same department account. That same search prompted city inspectors to post closure notices after finding significant safety code violations at the motorcycle club, which has remained shut down since August 19.

A Property With a Violent History

The clubhouse at 2501 Ames Avenue has been the site of repeated gun violence stretching back years. Omaha's planning director has indicated the property could reopen if the owner remediates all outstanding city code issues, according to KETV's coverage of the closure. Just months before the August shooting, four shooters fired 34 rounds during a May 24 after-hours gathering outside the same clubhouse, leaving a walk-in gunshot victim at a local hospital — an incident for which Omaha Crime Stoppers released surveillance footage seeking public help.

The violence at the site dates back further still. In October 2024, 37-year-old Alexander Whitcomb was killed in a gunfight outside the club at 25th and Taylor streets, according to KFAB. Officers at 25th and Ames heard gunshots. The Omaha Police Officers Association has discussed concerns about activity outside the club.

What Taliaferro Could Face If Convicted

Under Nebraska Revised Statute § 28-308, first-degree assault is a Class II felony, defined as intentionally or knowingly causing serious bodily injury, according to the Nebraska Legislature. Taliaferro also faces a weapons charge.

It remains to be seen whether the Los Diablos clubhouse will eventually satisfy city code requirements and reopen, or whether continued court proceedings and city scrutiny push toward a more permanent shutdown. For now, the property sits closed, Taliaferro awaits a trial date, and Omaha investigators continue piecing together who was involved in the August 15 shooting that left a young man fighting for his life.
