A driver was killed and another was rushed to the hospital Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle crash on Morgan Road in Bessemer, authorities say. The wreck happened just after 8 a.m. in the 2500 block of the road, leaving one person dead at the scene and the other injured.
The crash occurred at 8:20 a.m. in the 2500 block of Morgan Road, according to AL.com, which first reported the collision. Det. Kortney Abernathy said one driver was pronounced dead on the scene, while the other driver was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.
Few Details Released So Far
Beyond the basic outline of the crash, authorities had not released additional information, including the identities of either driver or what led to the collision. No additional information was immediately available, per the same report, leaving the circumstances of Tuesday's wreck unresolved for now.
Morgan Road has seen fatal crashes before. In November 2023, Homewood Corrections Officer Chad Mumpower died after a wreck on Morgan Road near South Shades Crest Road, according to WVTM 13. That crash happened about 11 p.m. on Nov. 29. Mumpower had started his career with the Homewood Police Department in 1998 and left behind his wife, daughter, mother and father, the station reported.
Part Of A Difficult Stretch For Bessemer Drivers And Pedestrians
Tuesday's crash also follows a pedestrian death reported in Bessemer earlier this year. A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in Bessemer on the morning of Feb. 12, according to ABC 3340. That incident, reported separately from Tuesday's wreck, underscores a rough stretch for traffic safety in the area, though no broader pattern has been established.
For now, the cause of Tuesday's crash and the condition of the surviving driver remain unknown. Hoodline will update this story as more information becomes available.
