Onigiri Burgers, the rice-ball-inspired fast-casual spot that built a following in Land Park, is preparing to open a second Sacramento location at 2621 Marconi Ave. in Arden-Arcade, with owner Rick You targeting a November launch. The new storefront sits inside Town & Country Village, along a corridor with steady traffic as it looks to build on the momentum of its original shop.
Rick You confirmed to WhatNow Sacramento that the Marconi Avenue location is not yet open but is moving toward a launch later this year. The original Onigiri Burgers opened in late 2025 at 4001 Freeport Blvd., Suite 110, in the Freeport West Shopping Center across from William Land Park, according to a report from Abridged. That flagship, open daily in the Land Park area, has built a loyal following, carrying a 4.9-star rating across more than 340 Google reviews, per WhatNow's reporting.
A Rice-Ball Concept Built Around Pressed Rice and Nori
The concept centers on onigiri, the traditional Japanese rice ball, reworked into burgers that swap a conventional bun for pressed rice. The menu also includes nori bites alongside the signature rice-based burgers, according to WhatNow. Beyond the core lineup, Onigiri Burgers' extended menu features Japanese-American fusion dishes such as sushi hot dogs, spam musubi, peking duck rolls, takoyaki, and deep-fried ice cream, per the restaurant's official site.
Onigiri Burgers is listed at 2621 Marconi Avenue.
Landing Inside a Historic Shopping Center
The Marconi Avenue corridor sits in Arden-Arcade and is served by the Marconi/Arcade light rail station, which funnels commuter and foot traffic through the area, according to WhatNow. The new storefront is located inside Town & Country Village, the same shopping center as Ramen 101, an established Japanese dining spot at 2651 Marconi Avenue, according to Inside Publications.
Hoodline reported in August on the arrival of Hankki, a Korean comfort-food spot, and in January on how mobile vendor La Bangin' Tacos moved into a storefront in the same neighborhood. Datassential market data from 2025 found that 48% of U.S. restaurant operators now offer Japanese cuisine, while the North American Restaurant Guide reports that California houses 27.56% of the nation's Korean restaurants, underscoring the kind of demand fueling this corridor's growth.
A Tougher Road Than the Menu Suggests
The expansion follows a rough stretch for the original Freeport Boulevard shop. On March 1, Onigiri Burgers was targeted during a 12-day commercial burglary spree that hit 11 East Sacramento small businesses, leading Sacramento Police to arrest a 23-year-old suspect on March 14, as reported by ABC10. A 20-year-old was arrested after a robbery spree hitting gas stations and fast-food spots along Watt Avenue.
Still, the original Land Park location is on Freeport Boulevard. Whether Onigiri Burgers can replicate that identity in a very different, car-centric Arden-Arcade setting will become clearer once the Marconi Avenue doors open this November.
