Sacramento is waking up to clear skies and temperatures around 62 degrees Thursday, but the calm start is a brief prelude to another blistering afternoon. The high is expected to reach 97 degrees, with a Heat Advisory in effect through 10 p.m. Friday as the region faces another day of dangerous heat.
Thursday Brings The Peak Heat
The National Weather Service expects sunny skies, light northwest winds and temperatures in the upper 90s through the afternoon. The advisory covers Sacramento and surrounding parts of the Valley, where dangerous heat makes it important to check on older adults and people without reliable cooling.
The advisory remains in effect through 10 p.m. Friday. Hoodline previously reported on the broader heat spell as forecasters began looking toward a weekend pattern change.
Friday Starts The Cooldown
Friday should still feel hot, with highs in the upper 90s to low 100s. Winds will strengthen from the south, especially Friday night, when gusts could reach 25 mph and provide the first noticeable break from the summerlike stretch.
Weekend Temperatures Fall Into The 70s
Saturday brings a much sharper drop, with sunny skies and a high near 77 degrees. Sunday should be even cooler at around 71 degrees, followed by a slight chance of light rain late Sunday night into early Monday; Monday's forecast currently calls for sunshine and a high near 72.
The cooler pattern is expected to continue into next week, with highs near 75 Tuesday and 77 Wednesday. Sacramento's official heat guidance recommends lightweight clothing, shade, sunscreen and regular hydration during hot weather, while residents can use the city's heat safety resources for additional precautions.
