P. Terry's Burger Stand is planning to build its 41st Texas location at 10990 Hwy. 29 in Liberty Hill, right next to Wag-A-Bag and Domino's Pizza. The ground-up project is expected to cost $950,000 and cover 4,056 square feet, with no word yet on when the doors might actually open.

According to the Liberty Hill Independent, construction on Burger Stand No. 41 is scheduled to begin Jan. 7, 2027, with an anticipated completion date of July 26, 2027. The project is privately funded, and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has registered the construction project, the paper reports. P. Terry's has not announced an official opening date for the Liberty Hill restaurant, per the same report.

The chain's roots trace back two decades. Kathy and Patrick Terry opened the first P. Terry's at the corner of South Lamar Boulevard and Barton Springs Road in Austin on July 5, 2005, according to What Now Houston. That original stand drew its look and feel from classic American burger joints of the 1950s and 1960s, a style the brand has leaned into ever since, as Houston Chronicle notes.

From a Single Austin Stand to Dozens of Locations

P. Terry's menu has stayed simple since those early days: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, veggie burgers, fresh-cut fries and milkshakes, built around all-natural Black Angus beef, hand-cut fries and freshly squeezed lemonade, the Liberty Hill Independent's reporting indicates. That focus on scratch-made basics helped the Austin-based chain expand into San Antonio and Houston over the years.

The growth has been steady rather than explosive. P. Terry's had 27 locations in July 2022 and expected to reach 29 by year's end with new Hill Country stands in Kyle and Dripping Springs, according to MySA. At the time, the company said its expansion plans were focused on Austin, San Antonio and the I-35 corridor connecting them, per that outlet. By 2024, the chain was targeting two additional openings with more deals in the works for 2025 and beyond, Houston Public Media reported, putting P. Terry's on pace for at least 33 Texas locations by the close of that year.

Earlier in 2026, the company reported 37 locations, the Liberty Hill Independent's reporting shows — meaning the planned Liberty Hill stand would push the brand well past that count as Burger Stand No. 41.

Houston-Area Builds Offer a Glimpse of What's Ahead

Liberty Hill wouldn't be the only community watching a P. Terry's rise from bare dirt. In the Houston area, the chain is constructing a location at 18705 Gulf Fwy in Webster, near an H-E-B, Sam's Club and rival In-N-Out, Houston Chronicle reports. That stand is planned with both drive-thru and dine-in service and is expected to open in the second quarter of 2027.

Other recent Houston-area builds give a sense of the range in project scale. A planned Richmond restaurant was designed as a dine-in and drive-thru location with an outdoor canopy area, carrying an estimated cost of $1.5 million, according to Houston Public Media. Meanwhile, the earlier Kyle location featured a dining room, patio and double drive-thru on a 2,785-square-foot building, while the Dripping Springs stand went drive-thru only on a smaller 1,080-square-foot footprint, per MySA's reporting. A separate Houston-area project at 4815 Katy Freeway was expected to open as the chain's fifth location in that market by summer 2027, What Now Houston reported.

For now, Liberty Hill residents have a construction timeline but no firm opening date, leaving the next milestone to watch as whether ground actually breaks on schedule in January 2027.
