A driver was left trapped and semi-conscious inside an overturned vehicle following a two-car crash Saturday night at the intersection of Cedar and George streets in Pawtucket, according to officials. Pawtucket police and fire crews responded to the scene, where one of the two vehicles involved had rolled onto its side, pinning its driver inside.
Officials removed and transported the trapped operator to a local hospital, according to WJAR. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Separately, a report from turnto10.com on the same crash describes one car as heavily damaged and nearby parked cars as appearing damaged, and reports that the other vehicle’s driver was uninjured.
A Notorious Stretch of Road
The crash adds to a troubling track record for the Cedar and George intersection, which has been identified in prior reporting as the most crash-prone intersection in Pawtucket. Per the same turnto10.com report, that location is where the current rollover unfolded Saturday night.
According to data provided by Pawtucket Police Department Sgt. Carrie Hormanski and cited by The Valley Breeze, the intersection recorded 111 crashes over a two-year span, 35 percent more than the next-highest crash site in the city. That runner-up, Lonsdale Avenue at Mineral Spring Avenue, logged 72 crashes in the same period, while Newport Avenue at Cottage Street saw 56, and both Newport Avenue at Benefit Street and Weeden Street at Lonsdale Avenue recorded 44 apiece.
Police Point to Speed and Red-Light Running
Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves has said that crashes tied to speeding or running red lights take a toll on families across the city, often injuring people in other vehicles or on foot, as reported by The Valley Breeze. Her comments came as the department released its intersection-by-intersection crash data, underscoring how frequently serious collisions cluster at the same handful of spots.
Saturday's rollover is not the only recent incident to raise alarms about driving conditions in Pawtucket. In an April 2025 crash on Capital Street, a vehicle pulling out into traffic struck another car that was turning onto the street from Main Street, causing the turning vehicle to roll onto its side, per turnto10.com's earlier report. The operator of that overturned car was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, while the vehicle that struck it fled the scene.
Another crash in the city left both a car driver and a motorcyclist hospitalized after a Saturday morning collision, with the motorcyclist suffering serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the outlet's report notes. Investigators have not yet determined what led to Saturday night's rollover at Cedar and George.
