Maven's Delicatessen is expanding into the vacant storefront right next to its flagship Pawtucket location, turning the former Feast & Fettle retail space into a new headquarters dedicated to baking bread, bagels and cookies for all of its businesses. The move sets up the fast-growing Jewish deli to start selling its scratch-made baked goods wholesale to other businesses across Rhode Island.
According to Rhode Island Monthly, the new baking facility is set to open in late October and will serve as the company's headquarters, producing all breads, bagels and cookies for every Maven's outpost. The expansion will allow Maven's to support more wholesale operations, and the company is already accepting wholesale accounts for its breads, bagels and pastries. From Pop-Up Demand to a Pawtucket Institution
Maven's Delicatessen opened in December 2023 at Pawtucket's Blackstone Plaza shopping center at 727 East Avenue, launching as Rhode Island's first scratch-kitchen Jewish deli, according to FUN 107. Founder Jason Sugarman, a veteran restaurateur who previously operated one Johnny Rockets location and four Pokéworks restaurants and held ownership in Asia Grille, built Maven's as a passion project rooted in childhood memories of classic Jewish delis, the station reports. Demand proved so overwhelming in the deli's earliest days that management briefly paused operations just to recalibrate staffing, production schedules and inventory, per GoLocalProv.
That early crush of customers reflected an operation doing most of its work from scratch. The deli prepares roughly 95% of its menu in-house, curing its own pastrami and corned beef while baking rye bread, rainbow cookies and black and white cookies on site, according to Edible Rhody, which also identifies Scott Taylor as executive baker and Jamie D’Oliveira as a partner and culinary advisor. That kind of volume is exactly the strain a dedicated central baking facility is designed to relieve.
Filling the Space Feast & Fettle Left Behind
The retail space Maven's is now absorbing was vacated when Feast & Fettle closed its Pawtucket grab-and-go storefront in November 2024 to focus exclusively on home meal delivery. The meal-kit company, founded in Rhode Island in 2016, had operated the physical market for about a year and a half before deciding to consolidate its retail footprint, the Boston Globe reported at the time. Feast & Fettle's ambitions have only grown since: the company acquired NYC-based Ipsa Provisions in April 2025 and leased a 25,000-square-foot production hub in Maryland in late 2025, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.
Maven's broader growth strategy has moved well beyond its original Pawtucket storefront.
A Brand That Keeps Finding New Counters
Maven's first ventured outside its flagship location in May 2025, opening a Little Mavens food kiosk at Centreville Bank Stadium at Tidewater Landing in Pawtucket to serve Rhode Island FC soccer matches. The stadium kiosk serves the deli's signature pastrami and corned beef sandwiches during home games and other venue events, according to FUN 107's reporting on the Tidewater Landing launch.
Maven's then opened a second physical location, a fast-casual spot called Maven's Jr., on Providence's Thayer Street in April 2026, catering largely to Brown University students and local foot traffic, according to GoLocalProv's coverage of the opening. That rapid run of expansions, from a single Pawtucket counter to a stadium kiosk to a second storefront near campus, marks a broader footprint for the deli.
With the new headquarters set to centralize baking for every Maven's location, the company is now positioning itself to move beyond its own counters entirely, supplying bread, bagels and pastries to outside retailers and institutional accounts across the state.
