A person is dead after being hit by a car Tuesday night in Fuquay-Varina, at the intersection of North Main Street and North Judd Parkway. The Fuquay-Varina Police Department is investigating, but as of publication, no information about the driver or the person who died had been released.
According to CBS 17, a town spokesperson confirmed that police are investigating a crash in which a pedestrian was hit and killed at that intersection. The outlet reported that town officials have not released any information about the driver of the car or the person who died, and that the investigation remains ongoing.
No Details Yet on Driver or Victim
As it stands, the public record on this crash is thin. Town officials have not said whether the driver has been identified, whether any citations have been issued, or what led up to the collision. CBS 17's report, the only account of the crash currently available, notes simply that the investigation is ongoing.
The lack of detail leaves the community without basic answers about what happened at North Main Street and North Judd Parkway, a gap that is not unusual in the earliest hours after a fatal crash but one that will likely need to be filled as the Fuquay-Varina Police Department continues its work.
Another Deadly Crash in the Same Town This Month
This is not the only fatal crash to hit Fuquay-Varina recently. A motorcycle crash around 8:20 p.m. on U.S. Highway 401 near Banks Road left one person dead and another hospitalized, according to WRAL. That crash involved a motorcycle and one other vehicle, and police had advised drivers to avoid the area while they investigated.
Elsewhere in Wake County, a pedestrian was struck and killed on the 2200 block of Jordan Road, per the same station's reporting. Both lanes there were closed for several hours while state troopers investigated, and a trooper said the man who died lived within walking distance of the crash site; lanes reopened around 8:45 p.m.
Pedestrian Safety a Statewide Concern
The Fuquay-Varina crash adds to a pattern of pedestrian deaths playing out across North Carolina. State transportation officials say more than 3,000 pedestrians and 850 bicyclists are hit by drivers each year statewide, making North Carolina one of the least safe states in the country for walking and biking, with about 180 of those victims killed annually, according to NCDOT.
NCDOT research has also worked to identify systemic risk factors behind pedestrian crashes, aiming to give state and local agencies tools to proactively address safety concerns, per the agency's own research documentation. In Asheville, where six pedestrians have been killed so far in 2026 and 13 deaths have been reported since January 2025, police have said that ten of those 13 cases involved contributing circumstances, according to WLOS. A police captain there cited statewide data showing about 80% of pedestrian fatalities happen at night.
For now, the circumstances of Tuesday's crash in Fuquay-Varina remain under wraps. The Fuquay-Varina Police Department has not released further details, and the investigation continues.
