A pedestrian was seriously injured after a motorist struck them near 22nd Street and Court Place in Denver, prompting police to urge drivers to steer clear of the area. The crash triggered an official alert from authorities, who confirmed serious injuries and advised alternate routes while the investigation got underway.
said in a post that it was investigating a traffic crash near 22nd and Court Place involving a motorist and a pedestrian, resulting in serious injuries. The department advised that alternate routes be used around the scene, though it did not release additional details about the circumstances of the crash, the vehicle involved, or the condition of the person injured.
Denver Police only issue public Crash Alerts when a collision meets a specific threshold. Not every crash in the city triggers a public notice — the department only posts one, per its own disclaimer, when at least one involved person sustains serious bodily injury or when the collision forces a road closure, according to a report from DenverLaw. That threshold distinguishes public notices from routine, unannounced handling.
A Familiar Stretch of Downtown Denver
The crash near 22nd and Court Place is not the only serious pedestrian incident to hit that part of downtown Denver in recent months. In August, a motorist and a pedestrian collided at the intersection of 22nd Street and Blake Street in Denver's Ballpark district early on a Sunday morning, also leaving the pedestrian with serious injuries, per the same DenverLaw account. That crash was reported at the time as the fifth such incident that month in the area.
On Monday, October 19, a pedestrian was struck on 24th Street and Broadway at around 12:25 a.m., according to a report from Sweet Law. The law firm's account states that a vehicle struck the pedestrian for reasons that remained unknown, and that the Denver Police Department led the investigation into that crash as well.
Part of a Larger Pattern on Denver Streets
Pedestrian and cyclist crashes have piled up across Denver in recent months. A hit-and-run near Colorado Boulevard left a pedestrian seriously injured on a Sunday, with the motorist fleeing the scene, Hoodline previously reported on a Denver hit-and-run. A January 2025 collision near the same intersection with East Bruce Randolph Avenue also left a pedestrian with serious injuries, though in that earlier case the motorist stayed at the scene.
The outlet also noted that police sought information about a separate crash on October 13 that seriously injured a bicyclist near North Speer Boulevard and West 14th Avenue, where an unidentified northbound motorist struck an eastbound cyclist in a marked crosswalk and fled. In July, a large silver SUV struck a bicyclist at 15th and Wynkoop streets downtown and fled the scene at about 9:45 p.m., leaving that cyclist with serious bodily injury, the same report states.
The broader trend lines are stark. State transportation officials have reported that 127 pedestrians were killed on Colorado roadways in 2025, roughly double the number killed a decade earlier, per the earlier Hoodline report. The crash at 22nd and Court Place adds another entry to a year already marked by a rising toll on the state's streets, with no additional details yet released about what led up to the collision.
