A 31-year-old Philadelphia man pleaded guilty on October 7 to three counts of aggravated assault and firearm possession for a shooting that broke the arm of a 7-year-old girl riding in the back seat of her mother's car last October. Alfredo Marrero is scheduled to be sentenced in January.
According to 6abc Philadelphia, Marrero fired several shots at a moving car on the 3000 block of Marshall Street in Fairhill, striking the girl, identified by her family as Azuri Ford, in the arm. Surveillance footage of the October 28, 2025, shooting captured Marrero firing at the Honda sedan while an accomplice was heard yelling, “You shot at the wrong car,” according to FOX 29 Philadelphia, suggesting the attack was a case of mistaken identity.
The bullet that hit Azuri penetrated the rear door of her mother Amanda Zeledon's sedan and broke the girl's left arm, per the Philadelphia Inquirer. Azuri was taken to Temple University Hospital after the shooting, CBS News reported.
Forensic Evidence and the Manhunt
Investigators recovered six shell casings at the scene. Marrero was arrested on November 4, 2025, on the 3700 block of North Percy Street at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to a report from Patch.
Marrero originally faced attempted murder charges following his arrest, but on October 7, 2026, he pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault and firearm possession. It remains unclear whether prosecutors will seek consecutive sentences when Marrero appears in court in January, and whether the accomplice heard on the surveillance video has been identified or charged.
A Neighborhood Already Strained by Gun Violence
The shooting unfolded in Fairhill. Separately, the 25th District recorded 13 homicides as of Monday, August 10, 2026, according to prior Hoodline reporting on a SWAT standoff in the district.
Family Seeks Help With Medical Bills
Azuri's aunt set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover hospital bills and other expenses, the Inquirer reported. The fundraiser reflects the lasting financial and physical toll the shooting left on the family, even as the criminal case against Marrero moves toward its January sentencing date.
