Philadelphia woke to cloudy skies and temperatures near 59 degrees Friday morning, but the city is headed for a summerlike afternoon before a sharp weather reversal. Highs could reach 81 degrees, with rain showers giving way to showers and thunderstorms later in the day.
Storms Arrive As Warm Air Peaks
The National Weather Service forecast a 60% chance of rain Friday daytime and 80% Friday night, with light showers possible through daybreak or possibly late morning and the main storm line along the I-95 corridor around 5–7 p.m., with rainfall totals of a quarter- to half-inch possible.
A strong cold front will cross the region Friday afternoon and evening, bringing south winds of 5 to 10 mph before winds shift sharply to the northwest. The National Weather Service has placed the area in a slight risk for severe weather, with damaging wind gusts possible in the strongest storms.
Saturday Brings A Fast Fall Reset
Once the front passes, the temperature drops quickly. Friday night will stay unsettled with showers and thunderstorms, followed by northwest winds around 15 mph and gusts that could reach 30 mph overnight and Saturday.
Saturday will be partly sunny after a chance of early showers, but the high is expected to reach only 54 degrees. Southeastern Pennsylvania is likely to fall into the mid-30s Saturday night, while the broader region faces an increasing chance of frost and freezing conditions.
The weekend then settles down, with sunny skies and a high near 57 degrees Sunday, followed by mostly sunny conditions and highs around 60 Monday. It is a much colder turn than the warm fall stretch outlined in Hoodline's earlier forecast.
