Philadelphia is waking Saturday to cool, dry conditions in the low 50s, with partly sunny skies and a high near 72. It is the city’s best outdoor window of the weekend before a much wetter Sunday takes over.
Saturday should remain rain-free as light northeast winds settle in and clouds gradually increase. Saturday night turns mostly cloudy, with a low near 58 and only a slight chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday Brings Heavy Rain And Stronger Gusts
Rain is expected to move into Philadelphia around 7 a.m. Sunday and continue through the afternoon, with a high near 65. Forecasters are calling for a widespread 1 to 2 inches of rain across the area Sunday into Sunday night, with isolated totals up to 3 inches.
East-southeast winds could gust as high as 30 mph, and thunderstorms may develop Sunday evening into Sunday night. The National Weather Service says there is a low threat of a brief tornado or damaging wind gust, while ponding and localized urban flooding remain possible in poor-drainage areas.
The latest forecast is a sharper turn from Hoodline’s earlier outlook, which showed a more limited Sunday rain chance. Minor tidal flooding is also possible Sunday morning, mainly around Delaware Bay communities rather than Philadelphia itself.
Monday Starts Damp Before A Brighter Week
Columbus Day begins with rain likely before 8 a.m., followed by showers and drizzle that may linger into Monday. Skies should turn partly sunny later, with a high near 72 and a much quieter Monday night.
Tuesday looks mostly sunny and warmer, reaching about 76, although isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon.
