A man died early Thursday after a pickup truck rolled over on southbound Interstate 15 at Flamingo, just blocks from the Las Vegas Strip, according to Nevada State Police. Troopers were called to the scene at 2:35 a.m. and remained there as investigators worked to piece together what happened.

Nevada Highway Patrol, a division of Nevada State Police, responded to the report of the crash and confirmed the man died in the single-vehicle wreck, according to FOX5 Vegas. The crash forced significant closures along one of the valley's busiest corridors during the investigation, with the Flamingo eastbound off-ramp completely shut down. The No. 4 and No. 5 southbound travel lanes at the Flamingo westbound off-ramp were also closed while troopers worked the scene.

What Investigators Have Said So Far

Nevada State Police said further information would be released following a preliminary investigation, the station's report noted. As of Thursday morning, authorities had not released the identity of the man who died, nor had they detailed what led to the rollover.

The crash adds to a string of fatal rollovers that have struck Southern Nevada's highways in recent weeks. On Oct. 4, a passenger died after a Chevrolet Tahoe rolled over on northbound I-15 near Jean, according to the Las Vegas Sun. In that crash, the driver swerved onto the dirt shoulder, struck two construction barrels, overcorrected across all travel lanes and hit the concrete median barrier before overturning — ejecting an unrestrained rear passenger.

A Pattern Of Early-Morning Rollovers

Earlier in the fall, a driver died in a similar early-morning rollover on southbound I-15 near the Valley of Fire Highway off-ramp, about 33 miles northeast of downtown Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Sun reported that crash occurred around 3:50 a.m. on Sept. 18, when a preliminary investigation found the driver failed to hold a curve, drifted into the dirt median and overturned. That driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Clark County coroner's office said it would release the victim's identity after notifying next of kin.

A fatal rollover near Mesquite in February 2025 followed a similar pattern. A silver 2008 Ford Ranger pickup overturned on I-15 about 54 miles north of downtown Las Vegas, killing 66-year-old Rick Anthony Lopiccolo of Pinon Hills, California, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to News 3 Las Vegas. That crash was investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit.

Fatal Crash Numbers Trending Down, Officials Say

Despite the recent cluster of deadly rollovers, Nevada's broader crash data shows some improvement this year. Clark County recorded 90 fatal crashes through the end of June, down from 132 during the same stretch in 2025 — a drop of nearly 32%, per FOX5 Vegas. Erin Breen, director of PedSafe Vegas and the Transportation Research Center at UNLV, has said increased enforcement is a key factor behind the decline, and a Super DUI blitz held over a recent holiday led to more than 700 traffic stops, over 400 citations and 76 DUI arrests.

Still, the toll on Southern Nevada's highways remains steep. State police had investigated 51 fatal crashes resulting in 56 fatalities so far this year as of Oct. 6, the Las Vegas Sun reported, up from the 49 fatal crashes and 54 deaths the Nevada Highway Patrol Southern Command had logged as of mid-September. Officials have cautioned those figures are preliminary and subject to change pending final investigations and coroner reports.

No additional details on Thursday's crash, including what caused the pickup to roll or whether anyone else was involved, have been released. Nevada State Police said more information would follow once the preliminary investigation concludes.
