Pittsburgh travelers headed for Florida have two new nonstop options this week. Breeze Airways launched seasonal service from Pittsburgh International Airport to Vero Beach on Wednesday, while Allegiant Air begins year-round flights to Fort Lauderdale on Friday, filling a route Spirit Airlines used to fly.

Breeze's new Vero Beach route operates three days a week, according to wpxi.com, which reported the flights run Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays using Airbus A220-300 aircraft. A separate report from tcpalm.com listed the schedule as Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays instead of Sundays, so the exact weekend day remains unclear. Fares are similarly disputed: veronews.com put the introductory one-way price at $74, while wptv.com reported fares starting at $89.

Vero Beach is a Florida city. Breeze had never served the market before, and the carrier first began operations at Vero Beach Regional Airport in February 2023, per veronews.com. Ryne Williams told TribLive that the expansion should be popular with vacationers and retirees drawn to the area.

A Growing Footprint at Vero Beach

The route launch comes as Vero Beach's airport has been seeing a surge in traffic. Annual passenger counts there jumped from 86,000 to 177,000 in 2024, and the region's tourism revenues rose nearly 19% in 2025, according to pennlive.com. Last year, the three airlines serving the airport carried a combined 259,040 passengers, per veronews.com.

Breeze isn't stopping with Vero Beach. The carrier plans to add seasonal international flights from Pittsburgh to Cancún, Mexico, and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic starting Jan. 7, 2027, pennlive.com reports. All three routes — Vero Beach, Cancún and Punta Cana — are expected to run three times weekly on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the same report, which notes the expansion will bring Breeze to 18 nonstop routes out of Pittsburgh International Airport. The expansion adds to Breeze's Pittsburgh network.

Breeze’s Atlantic City–Vero Beach service was listed as starting October 2 on Mondays and Fridays, while the three-times-weekly Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday schedule applied to Pittsburgh–Vero Beach, Pittsburgh–Cancún and Pittsburgh–Punta Cana.

Allegiant Steps In Where Spirit Left Off

Pittsburgh International Airport is also getting new service from Allegiant Air. The carrier's Pittsburgh–Fort Lauderdale route launches Friday and will run year-round, three times a week on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, according to CBS News Pittsburgh. The route picks up where Spirit Airlines left off, as Spirit previously flew the Pittsburgh-to-Fort Lauderdale path before Allegiant filled the gap, the station reports.

The $59 introductory one-way fare was available to travelers who booked when the route was first announced in May 2026, for travel October 2–16, per the CBS News Pittsburgh report. The airline's Fort Lauderdale service will give Pittsburgh travelers a nonstop option, the station notes.

The Fort Lauderdale flight is one of eight new routes to Florida vacation spots that Allegiant is rolling out, according to community.triblive.com. The expansion adds to Allegiant's nonstop service from Pittsburgh International Airport.
