A Pittsburgh-area motorcyclist says she and two fellow riders were almost forced off the road by a contractor's pickup truck, and the whole encounter was caught on camera in a video that has since gone viral. The footage shows what appears to be a pickup truck driver trying to run the group of area motorcyclists off the roadway.
The video report, first detailed by CBS News Pittsburgh, centers on the motorcyclist's account that she and two other bikers were nearly forced off the road by the pickup. KDKA's Erika Stanish reported on the incident, which the station says has drawn widespread attention online since the clip began circulating.
Pennsylvania law offers some context for why incidents like this one draw scrutiny. Under state statute, motorcycles are entitled to full use of a traffic lane, and motor vehicles are prohibited from being operated in a way that deprives a motorcyclist of that right, according to the Pennsylvania General Assembly. The same statute also caps how many motorcycles can ride side by side, allowing no more than two abreast in a single lane, and bars motorcyclists from splitting lanes or weaving between rows of vehicles.
What Pennsylvania Law Says About Reckless Driving
Separately, Pennsylvania defines reckless driving as operating a vehicle with willful or wanton disregard for the safety of people or property, a violation that can carry a $200 fine upon conviction, per the Pennsylvania General Assembly's statute on the subject. That legal definition provides general background on how the state treats dangerous driving broadly — it does not establish that any particular offense occurred in this case.
The footage itself does not come with confirmation of an arrest, a citation or a police investigation, and the identities of the driver, the contractor and the motorcyclists involved have not been made public.
A Pattern Seen Beyond Pittsburgh
Confrontations between pickup trucks and motorcyclists have surfaced in other cities as well. In Albuquerque last year, a driver named Ian Alexander said he captured video of a white pickup truck swerving into a motorcycle and forcing it into oncoming traffic on Barstow Street north of Harper Drive, according to KOB 4. Alexander said that incident escalated after he pulled out his phone and began recording, and the station described the episode as a pickup truck driving aggressively against a motorcyclist.
Back in Pittsburgh, the viral clip has reignited conversation about how much space drivers are legally required to give riders on two wheels. For now, the footage stands as the central piece of evidence in a story that remains otherwise unresolved — without confirmation of who was behind the wheel, who was riding, or whether any formal action has followed.
