Pittsburgh started Monday, October 12, under fog and mist with temperatures in the upper 50s, but the gray morning is only the opening act. The city should climb to near 72 degrees this afternoon with mostly cloudy skies and little chance of rain, setting up an unusually warm Tuesday before a sharp late-week turn.
Tuesday Brings Near-Record Warmth
After a partly cloudy night and a low around 59, Tuesday is expected to be sunny and near 82 degrees, with south winds of 7 to 15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. The National Weather Service Pittsburgh says the broader region could approach, tie or break daily high records, though no record is guaranteed in the city.
Storms Move In Wednesday
Showers and thunderstorms could begin after 8 a.m. Wednesday, with an 80% chance of precipitation and a high near 78. Thursday stays mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of rain showers, followed by another round of showers and thunderstorms that becomes likely Thursday night.
The newest outlook adds a much colder Friday-to-Saturday setup to Hoodline's Sunday forecast, which focused on Tuesday's warmup. The bigger change is waiting at the end of the week, when summerlike air gives way to wind, rain and a possible taste of snow.
Friday Wind And Saturday Snow Chances
Friday could bring showers and thunderstorms, a high near 69 degrees and west winds of 16 to 22 mph. Stronger gusts could reach roughly 35 to 45 mph in some scenarios, raising the risk of downed limbs and isolated power outages while foliage remains on the trees.
Friday night's low may fall to around 40 degrees, while Saturday could struggle to reach 52 with brisk northwest winds and a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Saturday night may dip to about 34 before sunny skies and a high near 59 return Sunday.
No Advisories For Pittsburgh Yet
No watches, warnings or advisories are currently posted for the Pittsburgh area. Monday's early fog may make for a murky start, but the main planning concern is the forecast whiplash: warm and dry Tuesday, stormier Wednesday and Thursday, then a windy and sharply colder finish to the week.
