Monroe County sheriff's deputies are asking the public to help identify two people connected to a theft at the Columbia Sportswear store on Monroe Avenue in Pittsford. The incident happened last Friday, September 25, at 6:04 p.m., and investigators have released images of the two individuals while they work to put names to the faces.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office asked for the public's help identifying the pair, according to Newport Dispatch. Anyone with information is asked to email details and reference case number CR #26-186233, though it's unclear whether that inbox is actively monitored around the clock. Deputies have stressed that the email tip line is meant for after-the-fact information only — anyone witnessing a crime in progress or facing an emergency should call 911 instead.
A Familiar Pattern Along Monroe Avenue
This is far from the first time deputies have turned to the public for help cracking a retail theft case in this stretch of Pittsford. Just weeks earlier, investigators sought suspects connected to a larceny at a nearby Marshalls, reported on September 21 at 9 p.m., per the same Newport Dispatch report. Before that, the sheriff's office was working a grand larceny case at Ulta Beauty, also at 3349 Monroe Avenue, stemming from an incident on September 3 at 5:49 p.m.
The pattern stretches back further still. Deputies issued an alert concerning a larceny at the T.J. Maxx located at the same 3349 Monroe Avenue address on March 26, 2026.
Older Cases Add to the Backdrop
The sheriff's office zone blotter has recorded smaller-scale retail thefts in the same corridor in years past. One entry noted that on November 3, 2024, an unknown man stole $191.91 worth of children's clothing from a Marshall's at 3340 Monroe Avenue before fleeing out an emergency exit, according to Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Another blotter snippet described a man and woman stealing $301.76 worth of clothing from the Dick's Sporting Goods at 3349 Monroe Avenue on June 25, 2024.
Those older entries come from brief departmental summaries and offer limited detail beyond the dates, locations and dollar amounts listed. Whether they bear any relationship to the current Columbia Sportswear investigation remains unknown.
What Comes Next
For now, the case remains open, with deputies hoping someone recognizes the two individuals pictured in the images released this week. Anyone with information is urged to reach out by email and cite case number CR #26-186233, while 911 remains the number to call for active emergencies or crimes in progress.
