Bev Proseccheria, the Airstream-housed Prosecco bar that turned a once-empty Plaza Midwood lot into one of Charlotte's buzziest patios, is opening a second location in west Charlotte this week. The new spot will share patio space with Pizza Baby West at 2135 Thrift Road, in the FreeMoreWest district just west of Uptown.
The expansion was first reported by Axios, whose McKenzie Rankin detailed how Bev is moving beyond its original home at 2008 Commonwealth Avenue, where it opened in Plaza Midwood last winter. The original location, which bills itself as the first proseccheria in the United States, serves authentic Italian Prosecco from the hills of the Prosecco region by the glass or bottle, poured from a lovingly restored 1963 vintage Airstream parked behind the building.
According to Axios, Bev owner Michelle Castelloe, who also owns Moxie Mercantile, has spent months working on the west-side expansion with Pizza Baby West owners Trey Wilson and Stephen De Falco. Castelloe reportedly sees the partnership as a way for two small businesses to share space and support each other, pairing her Prosecco program with a pizzeria that has earned its own following in the neighborhood.
What the FreeMoreWest Patio Will Look Like
Per the Axios report, the new Bev FreeMoreWest patio will feature blue-and-white bistro chairs, marble-topped tables, and garden arches, with a clear view of Uptown's skyline. That's a different aesthetic from the Plaza Midwood original, where Bev's current setup includes 20 round sintered-stone tables beneath striped umbrellas.
The menu will carry over much of what made the Plaza Midwood bar popular, including Prosecco by the glass and bottle and specialty spritzes, Axios reports. Jason Michael, who owns Tip Top Daily Market, will serve as beverage director for the new location. Customers dining at Pizza Baby West will reportedly be able to order drinks either directly from Bev or from its menu while they eat, according to the same account.
Soft Opening This Week, Bigger Debut in November
Bev's west Charlotte soft opening runs from today, Wednesday, through Sunday, November 1, Axios reports. Scheduled hours for the soft-opening stretch are Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. The bar will initially follow Pizza Baby's existing hours, though closing times may change, according to the same report.
Castelloe tells Axios that Bev's first big event at the new location will be Front Porch on Saturday, November 7. The monthly open-air market relocated to FreeMoreWest at 2135 Thrift Road, drawing more than 120 small businesses, mobile shops and food vendors to its monthly pop-ups, which are free to attend and dog-friendly. Front Porch returns on the first Saturday of the month through December, per a report from The Arches Charlotte.
A Growing West-Side Food Scene
Bev's arrival adds to a FreeMoreWest lineup that already includes Pizza Baby West, a full-service pizzeria in the neighboring Wesley Heights area known for its Americana and Roman-style pies, cold-proofed for 48 hours and paired with craft beers, natural wines and a curated cocktail list, according to the pizzeria's own site. The restaurant was recently ranked No. 42 by 50 Top Pizza for the third consecutive year, as noted by Mecktimes.
FreeMoreWest itself has grown into a go-to destination of independently owned restaurants, retailers, wellness studios and creative workspaces, according to Mecktimes. Bev's move suggests the district's momentum is pulling in concepts from across Charlotte, not just adding new ones from scratch — a shift that could make the Thrift Road corridor a bigger draw for both daytime markets and evening patio crowds.
