Please & Thank You's coffee and cookie shop in the heart of Frankfort Avenue remains open, even as the company has announced new ownership. The NuLu and Prospect locations are also open, giving Louisville cookie fans options across the city.
The station reports that the NuLu location, which opened first, and the Prospect shop are both still operating. Please & Thank You's award-winning cookies and cool atmosphere have helped cement its spot in Louisville's cafe scene.
A Bankruptcy Filing and a New Ownership Group
The ownership change came after Please & Thank You announced new owners last month, following a bankruptcy filing back in June, per WLKY's reporting. Court records show Please & Thank You, LLC filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in federal bankruptcy court that same month. According to the station's coverage of the ownership change, Wild Egg founders J.D. Rotherberg and Shane Hall teamed up with Good Folks Coffee Company owners Matt Argo and Zach Hensley to take over the business.
Please & Thank You, LLC filed its voluntary Chapter 11 petition in the Western District of Kentucky on June 2, 2026, under case number 26-31515, according to bankruptcyobserver.com. Reported figures on the company's debt load vary: Bankruptcy Observer's filing data lists liabilities between $1 million and $10 million, while Louisville Business First reported court filings showing about $4 million in liabilities, including payments owed to the Indiana Pacers.
Not Profitable Since 2019, Company Said
The company stated in its bankruptcy filing that it had not turned a profit since 2019, the same report from the station's coverage notes. That financial strain arrived roughly a year after Please & Thank You had announced franchise expansion plans across multiple states, according to Louisville Business First's reporting.
The new ownership group has said it plans to keep the business's nationally recognized cookies while making changes meant to better serve guests, the station's report on the ownership transition states. Those planned changes reportedly include lower prices, eliminating certain fees, lowering music volume, expanding the menu and extending operating hours.
Part of a Broader Louisville Closure Trend
The Frankfort Avenue shop remains open amid a steady churn of restaurant and cafe shutdowns across the Louisville area this year. More than 40 restaurants had closed around the region so far in 2026 as of mid-October, according to kentucky.com, a pace the outlet says appears similar to 2025, when more than 60 area bars and restaurants closed or moved.
Other coffee shops have felt the same pressure this year. Nashville-based Barista Parlour closed its only Louisville cafe after less than two years in business, while Heine Brothers Coffee shut down its drive-thru-only Bardstown Road location after three years, per kentucky.com's tracking. Old Louisville Coffee Co-op served its last cup on March 22 after nearly four years in operation. For now, Please & Thank You's Frankfort Avenue, NuLu and Prospect shops remain open.
