The anonymous, polka-dot-costumed Quebec duo Angine de Poitrine is coming back to Austin, and this time they are trading a club stage for a 5,000-capacity amphitheater. The band has added a May 11, 2027 performance at Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park as part of a newly extended global tour that is already sold out across Europe and North America, according to CultureMap Austin.
It is a sizable jump for the band's Central Texas footprint. Just weeks ago, on September 12, Angine de Poitrine played a sold-out set at Stubb's BBQ as part of the Levitation festival alongside Man or Astro-man?, per Do512. Levitation is an annual multi-venue psych and experimental music festival held in Austin, and the band's return there suggests real staying power with local audiences rather than a one-off novelty booking.
Who Is Behind the Masks
Angine de Poitrine formed in 2019 in Chicoutimi, Quebec, built around two musicians performing under the pseudonyms Khn de Poitrine and Klek de Poitrine. Per Discogs, the pair perform anonymously in oversized black-and-white polka-dotted costumes and papier-mâché masks, a disguise Discogs notes started as a comedy bit after the musicians found themselves double-booked at a local venue. The band's name itself translates to angina pectoris, the chest pain associated with coronary artery disease, according to CultureMap Austin.
Musically, the duo describes its sound as mantra-rock dada pythago-cubiste. Khn plays a double-necked guitar-bass, while Klek is the drummer. That unconventional approach is an unlikely foundation for the kind of mainstream crossover the band has pulled off over the past year.
From a French Festival Clip to 20 Million Views
The band's international breakout came after it went viral on KEXP, CultureMap Austin reports. The duo has also played a set for KEXP and appeared on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, CultureMap Austin reports.
That momentum translated into hardware. Angine de Poitrine won Canada's 2026 Polaris Music Prize, worth $30,000 CAD, for its album Vol. II, along with the SOCAN Polaris Song Prize, worth $10,000 CAD, for the track Fabienk, at Toronto's Massey Hall, according to Revolver. The Polaris Prize is awarded purely on artistic merit, without regard to sales or record label, which makes the band's subsequent commercial numbers even more notable.
An Indie Crossover Hit
Vol. II, released April 3, 2026, debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart, per CultureMap Austin. ATO Records, which handles U.S. distribution for the album, says the single Fabienk became one of the top 50 most Shazam'd tracks worldwide in 2026 — a striking feat for a track. The band has chosen to remain independent, with ATO Records handling U.S. distribution and Republic of Music handling distribution in Europe.
The Expanded 2027 Route
The newly extended tour kicks off March 4, 2027 in Melbourne, Australia, and runs through July 30, 2027, when the band closes with a homecoming show at Chicoutimi's Zone Portuaire, per CultureMap Austin and Pollstar. Along the way the route includes three South American Lollapalooza dates and a July 18, 2027 headline stop at Toronto's RBC Amphitheatre, illustrating just how far the band has traveled from club stages to major outdoor venues.
Texas gets back-to-back stops: the Bomb Factory in Dallas on May 10, 2027, followed the next night by Moody Amphitheater in Austin. The 5,000-capacity amphitheater at Waterloo Park opened in 2021, and the Waterloo Greenway Conservancy leads its management and programming. The venue has hosted a range of major acts recently, including a newly added Sienna Spiro tour stop.
