Tuesday's forecast looks more like a postcard than a washout. The catch is along the water, where coastal flooding and dangerous rip currents could complicate morning travel and beach plans.
Sunny Tuesday, But High Tide Brings Flooding Risk
Temperatures will climb quickly under sunny skies, reaching about 74 degrees this afternoon. Northeast winds will run 7 to 12 mph, making it feel breezier near the coast, while tonight stays mostly clear with a low around 57.
A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect through noon Tuesday for Charleston County and nearby coastal areas, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston. Up to 1 foot of saltwater inundation is possible along shorelines and tidal waterways, with high tide expected around 9:06 a.m.; some low-lying roads could become impassable and minor property flooding is possible.
Beachgoers Face Dangerous Rip Currents
The High Rip Current Risk continues through Tuesday evening along area beaches. The National Weather Service advises swimmers to stay near lifeguards, avoid fighting a rip current and swim parallel to shore if caught in one.
Boaters should also expect rougher conditions than the sunny skies might suggest. Small Craft Advisories remain in effect, with northeast wind gusts potentially reaching 25 to 30 knots and seas running several feet high nearshore and higher offshore.
Dry And Warmer Through Friday, Rain Returns This Weekend
The workweek stays dry and gradually warmer. Wednesday will be partly sunny with a high near 76, Thursday should reach 77, and Friday looks sunny with a high near 79.
Rain chances increase late in the weekend. Sunday brings a 50% chance of showers, with a chance of thunderstorms Sunday night. Showers and possible thunderstorms remain a possibility into early next week.
The forecast is a substantive update to Hoodline's earlier coastal flooding report, with Tuesday's advisory and morning high-tide timing now front and center. For Charleston residents, the practical plan is simple: enjoy the sunshine inland, but give flooded roads and rough surf plenty of room.
