Providence is starting Wednesday under clear skies and mild early temperatures, but the weather will take a few sharp turns before the weekend. Highs should reach about 77 degrees this afternoon, with a brief shower possible around 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and west winds gusting as high as 22 mph.
Warm, Breezy Wednesday Before Skies Clear
The National Weather Service expects mostly sunny skies through much of the day, with temperatures peaking in the mid- to upper 70s. The shower chance is only about 30%, and winds should ease after sunset as skies turn mostly clear.
Wednesday night will be noticeably cooler, with a low near 49 degrees and northwest winds around 8 mph. Thursday looks like the calmest day of the stretch: sunny, dry, and seasonably cool, with a high near 62.
Rain Arrives Friday, Then Temperatures Drop
Showers are likely Friday, when cloudy skies and a high near 68 will give way to a wetter evening. Rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to remain possible Friday night, with west winds increasing and gusts reaching the 30s.
Saturday will feel like a different season, with mostly sunny skies but a high near 50 and northwest gusts approaching 29 mph. Saturday night could fall to around 33 degrees in Providence, while Sunday rebounds slightly under sunny skies with a high near 56.
Boaters Should Watch The Wind
Small Craft Advisories remain posted for parts of the nearby Rhode Island waters Wednesday, where winds and offshore waves will be rougher than conditions on land. Seas could reach roughly 5 to 6 feet farther offshore before improving Thursday.
