Providence is starting Thursday, October 8, with clear skies and temperatures around 57 degrees, but a brief shower window could interrupt what is otherwise the warmest day of the week. The city is expected to reach 72 degrees before sunshine takes over again this afternoon.
Morning Showers Give Way To Sun
A 30% chance of rain showers is in the forecast between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., with southwest winds running 7 to 10 mph and gusts reaching up to 24 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Most of the day should remain dry, and skies are expected to turn mostly sunny by early afternoon.
Thursday night will be clear, with temperatures dropping to around 48 degrees and west winds near 6 mph. A Small Craft Advisory remains posted for parts of the nearby waters through Thursday afternoon, making the breezy conditions more important for boaters than for most city residents.
Sunny, Cooler Days Follow
Friday looks sunny with a high near 67, followed by another bright Saturday topping out around 65 degrees. Overnight lows will stay crisp, falling to about 45 Friday night and 49 Saturday night, so early-morning plans will call for a jacket.
Holiday Weekend Takes A Wetter Turn
Sunday should be mostly cloudy with a high near 69, then showers become likely after 8 p.m. with an 80% chance of rain. Columbus Day on Monday is also expected to be mostly cloudy and showery, with a high near 68 and a 70% chance of precipitation.
That wetter Sunday-night and Monday setup is a substantive change from the earlier outlook described in Hoodline's previous Providence forecast. Tuesday brings another chance of showers before temperatures ease back into the upper 50s Wednesday.
