Puyallup now has two Planet Fitness gyms to choose from after the opening of Planet Fitness Puyallup South Hill, a 19,740-square-foot club tucked into the Best Buy Plaza next to Boot Barn on South Meridian. The new location gives the city its second Planet Fitness, joining the existing club at 625 River Road, and marks the 19th Planet Fitness in the Seattle-Tacoma area.
The South Hill club is the 90th location overall for CDM Fitness Holdings, the company that develops and operates Planet Fitness clubs across the region, according to ConnectCRE. CDM’s Washington portfolio stretches well beyond Puyallup, with clubs in Auburn, Bellevue, Bonney Lake, Covington, Des Moines, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kent, Kent Valley, Marysville, Milton, Renton, Sammamish, Tacoma, University Place and Woodinville, per the outlet. The new club's address is listed directly on Planet Fitness's own site as 4102 S Meridian.
Why CDM Says Puyallup Needed a Second Club
CDM Fitness Holdings CEO Steve Venezia said the expansion reflects community strength and market demand in Puyallup, as reported by KIRO 7 News Seattle. Venezia also said the South Hill location was designed to serve members on the other side of Puyallup who may lack convenient access to the original club on River Road, per the same report. He encouraged locals to check out what he described as the club's non-intimidating, judgment-free environment.
The new facility comes equipped with 83 pieces of strength equipment, including free weights, strength machines, plate-loaded bench presses, hack squats and a seated calf machine, alongside 56 pieces of cardio equipment, according to KIRO 7. The club also includes a functional training area stocked with kettlebells, TRX suspension bands and battle ropes, plus a dedicated mobility and stretching space, the station reports.
Black Card Perks Include a Red-Light Sauna
For members who upgrade to a PF Black Card, the South Hill club features a dedicated spa area with hydromassage loungers, elite massage chairs, salon-grade hybrid tanning beds, RedWave recovery and a hydromassage bed, along with a red-light sauna that combines red light therapy with infrared heat, KIRO 7 notes. The club is also outfitted with numerous flat-screen televisions, free Wi-Fi, and cardio machines with wireless television connections, per the same report.
Every Planet Fitness membership, Black Card or otherwise, includes access to strength and brand-name cardio equipment, free in-club fitness training, and the Planet Fitness App, which features hundreds of on-demand digital exercises, according to Patch's coverage of the chain's recent Sammamish opening. Black Card members specifically get the ability to bring a guest every day at no extra charge and access to 2,800+ Planet Fitness locations across all 50 states, the outlet reports.
Part of a Statewide and National Growth Push
The South Hill opening lands amid a broader building spree for the chain. Planet Fitness ended 2025 with 2,896 total clubs systemwide after opening 181 new locations that year, including 158 franchisee-owned and 23 corporate-owned clubs, according to Bisnow. The company plans to add another 180 to 190 locations in 2026, with most expected to debut in the second half of the year, particularly the fourth quarter, Bisnow reports. Roughly 90% of Planet Fitness clubs nationwide are owned and operated by independent business owners rather than the corporate parent, per Patch's reporting.
Washington state has seen several other additions to the Planet Fitness map this year. The chain opened a 21,141-square-foot club in Sammamish on May 7, according to Patch, and is separately reviewing plans for a 22,500-square-foot facility in West Richland's Belmont District, slightly larger than the existing 20,000-square-foot Kennewick club, per the Tri-City Herald. If approved, that project would become the fourth Planet Fitness in the Tri-Cities and the first there built in a newly constructed building, with construction anticipated to begin in spring 2027 and wrap up by spring 2028, the paper reports.
The South Hill opening also follows a local closure elsewhere in the city's fitness scene: Northwest Fitness Company in Puyallup shut down after seven years in business, according to The News Tribune. With two Planet Fitness locations now operating in Puyallup, residents on either side of town have a nearby option for the chain's familiar lineup of equipment, classes and amenities.
