Milwaukee is waking up under gray skies Thursday, with temperatures near 57 degrees before a wet afternoon and a sharp turn toward colder, windier weather. Rain becomes likely late morning, and the city could pick up a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch before the system moves on.
The National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan office expects showers to spread in between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by steady rain, with a few lightning strikes possible later in the afternoon.
Rain Arrives Before The Evening Commute
Most precipitation is expected Thursday afternoon. The wetter forecast is a notable update from Wednesday's Hoodline forecast, which called for a lower rain chance and smaller totals.
Friday Wind Turns Milwaukee Blustery
Thursday night's rain may linger before 4 a.m. Friday, with temperatures falling to around 45 degrees. Friday will stay mostly cloudy with a high near 55, northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts reaching 40 mph.
A Gale Warning is in effect for Lake Michigan on Friday, when stronger northwest winds could create dangerous conditions on the open water.
Frost Risk Returns Saturday Morning
Friday night will bring a sharp chill, with mostly clear skies and a low around 36 degrees. Areas of frost are possible before 8 a.m. Saturday, followed by sunshine and a high near 57.
The weekend then settles down, with sunny skies and a high near 62 Sunday, while Monday reaches 64. Mostly sunny, dry conditions continue into Tuesday and Wednesday, when highs are expected to reach the low to mid-60s.
