Cleveland woke Friday to light rain, overcast skies and temperatures in the mid-60s, but the damp start will not last all day. A strong cold front is moving through the area, bringing widespread showers, gusty north winds and a much cooler feel by the weekend.

Rain Eases By Friday Afternoon

Showers are expected to continue through late morning, with some moderate bursts possible and most locations likely to receive a quarter-inch to a half-inch of rain by late morning. The National Weather Service says rain should exit by early to mid-afternoon, leaving cloudy skies and a high near 65.

North winds around 13 mph will make the day feel brisk, with gusts reaching 25 mph and stronger gusts of 30 to 35 mph possible along the immediate Lake Erie shoreline during the morning. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for Lake Erie waters through 10 a.m., while flooding is not expected despite the wet commute.

Sunny Weekend Follows The Wet Start

Friday night turns partly cloudy and cooler, with a low near 52 and northeast winds between 7 and 12 mph. Saturday should bring a welcome reset with sunny skies and a high near 65, followed by a milder Sunday reaching around 70 under mostly sunny conditions.

Cooler Air Settles In Next Week

The chill becomes more noticeable Monday and Tuesday, when highs are forecast near 61 and 60, respectively. Overnight lows will generally fall into the upper 40s, and the weather service says patchy frost could develop Monday night in typical inland cold spots.

Sunshine returns for much of the workweek, with highs near 69 Wednesday and 70 Thursday. For Cleveland, Friday's rain looks like a brief interruption before a dry stretch takes over, though jackets will be doing more work than they did earlier this week.
