A Red Clay Consolidated School District school bus plowed into a string of vehicles Tuesday morning in Wilmington, sending children scrambling onto a replacement bus while crews worked the scene near North Lincoln Street and West 10th Street. The crash was reported around 9 a.m. near North Lincoln Street and West 10th Street.

Video captured by SkyForce 10 and reviewed by NBC10 Philadelphia appeared to show the front of the school bus striking the side of a white SUV, which then appeared to hit a black SUV in a chain-reaction collision. The outlet reported that firefighters said there were no injuries and that the children aboard the bus were transferred to another bus to continue on their way.

6ABC reported that police said eight people were injured, with two drivers and six bus occupants taken to the hospital. The outlet also reported that officials had not yet said what may have led to the collision at the time of publication.

What Caused the Crash Remains a Mystery

Beyond the sequence of impacts caught on camera, the actual cause of Tuesday's crash has not been determined. The same uncertainty extended to the investigation itself, which 6ABC said remains ongoing.

The bus involved belongs to the Red Clay Consolidated School District, according to NBC10's reporting. 6ABC reported that an SUV driver struck the occupied bus and that six bus occupants were taken to the hospital; the driver was not named.

Not the District's First Bus Crash Headline This Year

Tuesday's collision adds to a string of Wilmington-area school bus incidents that have made headlines in recent months. Back in July, a Wilmington school bus blew through a red light and collided with a sedan, sending five children and a woman to the hospital, according to a report from Delaware Online, citing police.

Red Clay Consolidated has also been the operator of record in earlier crashes. In August 2019, officials said at least four students were injured when a Red Clay school bus collided with an SUV in New Castle County, and 6ABC reported that five of the 17 students aboard were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries before being treated and released. Separately, Delaware State Police opened an investigation into a fatal school bus crash in Newark in October 2025.

For now, Tuesday's Wilmington crash is still being sorted out by investigators, with no confirmed cause and conflicting reports on whether anyone was hurt. Hoodline will update this story as more information becomes available.
