Separate Search Underway for Missing Northumberland County Teen
In an unrelated case playing out roughly 90 miles east of Richmond, Virginia State Police have issued a CODI Alert for 16-year-old Cayden James Dawson, who was last seen Wednesday at 7:36 p.m. on Fruit Plain Road in the Callao area of Northumberland County, per wtvr.com. Dawson is described as a 5-foot-4-inch white male with blonde hair and blue eyes, weighing 150 pounds, the station reports.
Investigators believe Dawson may be traveling in a dark gray 2024 Honda Civic bearing Virginia license plate TDL-1367, the same report states. State police told wric.com that his disappearance is believed to pose a credible threat to his health and safety, and they are asking anyone with information to come forward.
What a CODI Alert Means
CODI stands for Critical Operation for a Disappeared Child Initiative, a notification system Virginia State Police use to aid in searches for missing or endangered children. The program was approved by the 2024 General Assembly, according to Virginia State Police.
The alert system has produced quick resolutions before: a 2-year-old girl from Chesterfield County was found safe in November 2024 after state police issued a CODI alert for her earlier that same day, Richmond.com reported at the time. It is not known whether Dawson's case will follow a similar timeline, and authorities have not released further updates on his whereabouts as of Thursday morning.
