A man was hospitalized after being shot in the 1400 block of Harwood Street early Saturday, with Richmond police rushing to the scene around 2 a.m. following a report of gunfire. Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
According to WRIC ABC 8News, the man’s injuries were non-life-threatening, and the outlet reported the shooting as having occurred in Richmond’s South Side. A separate account from 12onyourside.com described the same Harwood Street shooting as happening in the Manchester neighborhood, saying the man was rushed to the hospital and was expected to be okay. The two reports do not agree on which part of the city the shooting took place in, and neither detail has been independently confirmed beyond each outlet’s own account.
Police Seek Tips as Investigation Continues
Richmond police have not released a suspect description, a motive, or any arrest information connected to the shooting, and the victim has not been publicly identified. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000, per the same 12onyourside.com report.
The Harwood Street shooting comes amid a string of gun violence incidents reported around Richmond this year. In a separate case, officers responding to a reported assault in the 1200 block of St. John Street on a Wednesday night found an adult male victim with a gunshot wound, according to WTVR. That victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, a more serious outcome than what was reported in Saturday’s Harwood Street case. WTVR also reported that a man was killed in a South Richmond shooting overnight on a Wednesday in August.
A City Watching Its Shooting Numbers
City data trends offer a mixed picture of gun violence in Richmond. Acting Police Chief Tim Simmons told the police commission in January that shooting incidents spiked 163% during the final 90 days of 2025, as reported by Richmondside. Yet by midyear, WRIC reported that the city had recorded a 10-year average of 99 non-fatal shootings, the lowest figure since 2009, with police releasing a map of gun violence hotspots at a midyear briefing. The city also maintains interactive dashboards tracking firearm-injury emergency room visits and firearm-related deaths through its gun violence prevention page on rva.gov.
No further details about Saturday’s shooting have been released, and the discrepancy over whether the incident unfolded in South Side or Manchester remains unresolved. Anyone with information is urged to reach out to Crime Stoppers as the investigation continues.
