A man riding his bike to a store on Webster Avenue was shot multiple times Wednesday night and died at the scene, Rochester police said. The shooter ran off on foot, and as of Wednesday night had not been caught.

According to WHEC, the victim was shot as he pedaled toward a store on Webster Avenue, and he did not survive. Police told the station the suspect fired multiple rounds before fleeing on foot. Investigators were still trying to determine a motive. Detectives said they were still working to identify the victim and notify his family, a process that was ongoing as of Wednesday night.

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting.

Scene Remained Blocked Off Into the Night

As of 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers had cordoned off a large stretch of Webster Avenue between Hazelwood Terrace and Ferndale Crescent, the station reported. 13WHAM separately reported that the shooting occurred at a corner store on Webster Avenue. Rochester police confirmed that the shooting occurred on Webster Avenue. The road had reopened.

13WHAM said it plans to provide updates as more information becomes available. No arrests had been announced as of the initial reporting Wednesday night.

Webster Avenue's Recent History of Gun Violence

Wednesday's shooting is not the first act of gun violence on or near Webster Avenue this year. On October 14, 2026, a 19-year-old Rochester man was shot once in the upper body just after noon on Rosewood Terrace, off Webster Avenue in the Beechwood neighborhood, according to the station's report from WHAM 1180. That victim was seriously injured but expected to survive, and no arrests were made in that case either, the outlet reported.

13WHAM has also reported on a separate fatal shooting on Webster Avenue involving 31-year-old James Huff IV, whom police identified after he was shot while walking along the street shortly after midnight. Huff was struck by gunfire from a passing vehicle and later died at Strong Memorial Hospital, according to the outlet's report.

Citywide Shooting Numbers Show Mixed Picture

Rochester has seen fluctuating gun violence statistics in recent years. The Governor of New York's office reported that shooting incidents with injury in Rochester fell from 49 between January and April 2024 to 39 during the same period in 2025, with the number of shooting victims dropping from 58 to 43 over that stretch. Those figures, drawn from the governor's announcement touting declining violence, predate Wednesday's shooting and do not reflect any trend for the current year.

Detectives continue to investigate Wednesday's shooting, and police have not released the victim's identity while they work to notify his family.
