Grandma’s Ice Cream and Waffles, at 389 E. Gude Drive in Rockville, is scheduled to hold a sale of restaurant equipment and fixtures from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. The sale is the clearest public indication that the storefront may be finished, though a previously discussed replacement concept remains unresolved.
The The MoCo Show reported the event from its listing, which labels it “Everything Must Go.” The outlet said the shop appears to have permanently closed after months of uncertainty; the listing gives no details about what, if anything, could follow at the address.
A Quiet Closure That Followed a Promised Comeback
The planned sale follows an earlier pause: Montgomery Magazine reported that the shop temporarily closed in March, after more than three years in business. The MoCo Show reported it opened in January 2023.
At the time, the owner told The MoCo Show they were considering a different concept centered on “Grandma's homemade cooking.” Montgomery Magazine also reported that a home-cooking menu was under consideration. Neither outlet has reported a launch date, a name for the concept or confirmation that it will proceed.
From Waffle Bowls to Loaded Fries
While operating, the shop paired ice cream desserts and waffles with a broader comfort-food menu, offering traditional and vegan choices.
The Rockville shop shared owners with Grandma Kona's Kona Ice franchise, which operates in Gaithersburg and Germantown and marked its 14th year in 2026. That franchise remains active.
Part of a Broader Wave of County Closures
Montgomery County restaurants also faced substantial turnover: Bethesda Magazine's roundup counted 19 closures in 2025, including food halls that closed after short runs and longstanding neighborhood spots.
Another reported Rockville closure
That roundup also reported that Shouk, a plant-based Israeli restaurant, closed its Rockville eatery in October 2025. The reason was unclear, and Shouk was a separate business from Grandma's.
For now, Sunday's sale is the clearest sign yet that the Gude Drive location's run has ended, even as the door remains open, at least in theory, to a reinvented version of Grandma's down the road.
