Rogers County deputies shot and killed an armed suspect in Foyil after he allegedly threatened to cut their throats and advanced toward them with a knife after being struck with a beanbag round. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is now investigating the deputy-involved shooting.
According to News On 6, Rogers County deputies responded Sunday evening after receiving reports that an individual had chased someone with a knife. The deputies were already familiar with the suspect and made contact with him at a scene in Foyil, the outlet reported. Once there, the suspect was reportedly agitated and made death threats, including threats to cut the deputies’ throats.
The station’s report states that the suspect then went inside a house before coming back outside. Deputies initially deployed a beanbag launcher, striking the suspect, but the confrontation did not end there. Per the same account, the suspect then advanced toward deputies while armed with a knife, and multiple deputies fired their weapons, killing him.
A Separate 2017 Incident Reported by KTUL
A separate report from KTUL describes a different Rogers County incident in 2017. That outlet reported that deputies with the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance at a home near South 4200 Road around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
KTUL also reported that deputies found 42-year-old Shane Alexander Tresner outside the home, armed with a compound bow and arrow, according to OSBI. Deputies ordered Tresner several times to put the bow and arrow down, but he refused, the station reported. KTUL’s account states that three deputies then fired their weapons at Tresner, hitting him several times, and that he was airlifted to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition.
The reports describe separate incidents: News On 6 described a fatal shooting involving a knife, while KTUL reported a separate bow-and-arrow incident in which Tresner was critically injured.
OSBI Investigating, Deputies on Leave
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is responding to assist with the investigation and process the crime scene, according to News On 6. In its report on the 2017 Tresner incident, KTUL reported that OSBI worked through the night investigating the scene and conducting interviews.
The deputies who fired their weapons have been placed on routine paid administrative leave while the investigation continues, per News On 6’s reporting. News On 6 described its report as a developing story as of publication.
