Ross Dress for Less opened its second Richardson store on Saturday, October 10, moving into a building at 1332 S. Plano Road, Suite 200, that was formerly occupied by Big Lots. The discount retailer already runs a location nearby in the Richardson Square shopping center, meaning shoppers in the area now have two Ross stores within a short drive of each other.

The opening date and address were confirmed by Community Impact, which reported the new store took over the space once used by Big Lots. The outlet also noted that Ross already has a presence in Richardson Square, making this the chain's second foothold in the city. Like other Ross locations, the new store sells clothing, shoes, home decor and more, according to the same report.

An earlier report from the same outlet indicated that construction was expected to begin in June and wrap up in November, putting the eventual October opening slightly ahead of that projected timeline.

Company materials describe Ross Dress for Less as a seller of first-quality, in-season, brand-name and designer apparel, accessories, footwear and home fashions, typically priced 20% to 60% below regular department and specialty store prices, according to a release distributed via PR Newswire. The same release said Ross Stores recently opened 41 Ross Dress for Less stores and 10 dd's DISCOUNTS stores across 17 states in September and October, bringing the total number of locations added during fiscal 2026 to 115.

A Chain Still Expanding Nationwide

The expansion comes amid strong recent sales. Ross Stores reported second-quarter sales of $6.26 billion, up 13% and ahead of analyst estimates, with same-store sales surging 10%, according to a report from Chain Store Age. Ross Stores had approximately 2,377 locations across 45 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico, according to the company and Chain Store Age.

Ross Stores reported fiscal 2025 revenue of $22.8 billion, underscoring the scale of the off-price retailer's operations as it adds new stores like the one now open in Richardson.
