Corner Bakery Cafe shut down its Round Rock location on October 11, closing the door on a restaurant that had served made-to-order breakfast, lunch and dinner off I-35 for 14 years. The cafe at 110 N. I-35, Suite 180, was the chain's only Central Texas outpost, and its closure leaves a gap in a city that had grown used to its presence since the location first opened in July 2012.

The closure was first reported by Community Impact, which noted that Corner Bakery Cafe describes itself as based in Chicago, though other reporting on the company has described it as Dallas-based. Community Impact's reporting also lists the chain's other Texas locations in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and El Paso, meaning Round Rock customers hoping to visit another branch will now need to drive well outside the immediate area.

A Chain That Has Been Shrinking For Years

The Round Rock closure did not happen in isolation. MySA reported that Corner Bakery Cafe had locations in 20 states and Washington, D.C., in 2023, and that the chain was sold to Pandya Restaurant Growth Brands LLC in October 2020. Nation's Restaurant News reported on the chain's Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The company's financial troubles became public in February 2023, when it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, with court filings listing estimated assets and liabilities between $10 million and $50 million, per MySA. That same report noted that more than 30 Corner Bakery Café stores had closed even as the chain had added six new locations in the year following its 2020 sale.

Closures Stretch From North Texas To The Central Valley

Round Rock's loss fits a pattern that has played out across the country in recent months. In Highland Village, a Corner Bakery Cafe closed without any formal announcement, a closure the Cross Timbers Gazette described as one of many throughout the nationwide chain. The outlet reported that the Southlake location, which had operated at Southlake Town Square for 26 years, also shut down in the final months of 2025, leaving just one Corner Bakery Cafe standing in downtown Fort Worth after those two North Texas closures, according to the Cross Timbers Gazette.

Farther east, the only Corner Bakery Cafe in Tyler closed after more than a decade in business, according to KETK, which reported the cafe had been established in 2011 at the corner of Troup Highway and Loop 323. Owners Robert and Kandi Owens told the station they had decided to retire, closing the book on that location. In California, the Corner Bakery Cafe in northeast Fresno closed abruptly in April after nearly 10 years in operation, with the Fresno Bee reporting the reasons for that sudden closure were not immediately known, and that it remained unclear whether a planned Clovis location would still open.

What exactly prompted the Round Rock closure has not been disclosed, and no comment from Corner Bakery Cafe, the property's owner or local officials has surfaced addressing why this particular restaurant shut its doors. For now, Round Rock joins a growing list of communities figuring out what comes next for the empty storefront a once-familiar bakery-café chain left behind.
