A Sacramento-born pizzeria blending curry spices with classic pies has planted its flag in Elk Grove, opening a storefront at the Laguna Creek Town Center in late August. Velly Pizza now runs eight locations across two states, and its owners are not slowing down.
The Elk Grove shop sits at 4720 Laguna Blvd., inside the Laguna Creek Town Center, and opened on August 28, according to reporting from The Sacramento Bee. It's open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., serving a menu that mashes up Indian flavors with American pizzeria staples — a formula that's turned a single rebranded storefront into a fast-growing regional chain. The restaurant's signature pies include Indian Garlic Chicken, Chicken Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Vegetable Masala, alongside more familiar combination, all-meat, and Hawaiian pizzas, the Bee reports.
Velly Pizza describes its dough as fresh, made from scratch, and infused with seasoning, according to the same report. Beyond pizza, the menu stretches into pasta, salad, and 24-hour-marinated oven-baked chicken wings. Delivery listings on Uber Eats show Sacramento-area locations also carry fusion items like Lahori Chicken Pizza, Achari Paneer, Shahi Paneer, and Tandoori Chicken Penne Pasta, with halal, vegetarian, and half-and-half pie options available.
From a Natomas Curry Shop to an Eight-Store Chain
Velly Pizza's roots trace back to South Natomas, where the brand opened its first storefront at 3291 Truxel Road in 2024, per the Bee's reporting. That location previously operated as The Original Chicago's Pizza & Curry, a deep-dish pizza and curry spot, according to a listing on Grubhub. That rebrand effectively set the template Velly Pizza has since replicated across the region.
The chain now operates six storefronts in California — including South Natomas, Roseville, Yuba City, and the new Elk Grove shop — plus two in Indiana, according to the company's own website. Sacramento-area locations also include spots at 7441 Foothills Blvd. in Roseville and two Yuba City addresses, on Garden Highway and Gray Avenue, per the Bee. The company is already opening a second Natomas-area location, and the Bee has reported plans for Woodland and south Sacramento.
A High-Traffic Corner Built for Foot Traffic
Velly Pizza's Elk Grove storefront landed inside a 119,173-square-foot shopping center anchored by Bel Air Market and CVS Pharmacy, at an intersection that sees over 60,0000 cars a day, according to commercial real estate records from Gallelli Real Estate. The Laguna Creek Town Center sits at the corner of Laguna Boulevard and Franklin Boulevard.
Elk Grove's Appetite for Indian-Fusion Pizza
The timing lines up with Elk Grove's shifting demographics. The city's Asian population grew from 26.3% in 2010 to 33.5% in 2020, with more than 200 business licenses filed by Asian-identified owners as of 2024, according to reporting by ABC10.
Velly Pizza isn't the only chain chasing that demand. ABC10 reported last year that Bay Area-based Tandoori Pizza is also expanding into the Sacramento market, announcing an Elk Grove location at Laguna Gateway alongside a splashy Downtown Commons location near Golden 1 Center that followed a sold-out pop-up with the Sacramento Kings. The region's Indian-fusion pizza scene also includes Bollywood Pizza, Pizza Twist and Curry Pizza House.
The trend isn't confined to the Sacramento area. Hoodline has covered Indian pizza spots across the Bay Area for years, including a 2022 report that a Curry Pizza House location in Berkeley was reportedly coming soon. Most recently, Hoodline reported on Pizza Rasoi's debut inside a Capitol Hill brewery, another sign that the Indian pizza concept is spreading well beyond Northern California.
