Two days before the 16th anniversary of a 20-year-old man being shot to death behind the wheel of his own truck on San Antonio's Northeast Side, investigators still don't have a suspect, and a fresh reward offer is trying to change that. Eric Mendoza was killed in the early morning hours of Oct. 21, 2010, in the 5000 block of Village Path near Loop 410, and the case remains open.
Mendoza was shot and killed while driving his truck that night, according to KSAT, which reported that San Antonio police said the shooting happened around 1 a.m. The Crime Stoppers case page pinpoints the time even more precisely, placing the shooting at approximately 1:03 a.m. that Thursday.
Nearby residents heard several gunshots and the sound of a vehicle speeding off, according to the Crime Stoppers account. Police said Mendoza's truck then struck several vehicles before coming to a stop, and officers who arrived found him unresponsive inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses Heard Gunshots
Witnesses told investigators they heard gunshots and rushed outside in time to see Mendoza's truck crash into several vehicles before it stopped, according to foxsanantonio.com.
Renewed efforts are seeking information that could lead to an arrest.
A Guaranteed Reward With a Long Clock
Crime Stoppers is now offering a guaranteed $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of whoever is responsible for Mendoza's death. According to foxsanantonio.com, that reward is guaranteed through July 14, 2031, giving tipsters years to come forward.
Tips can be submitted by calling 210-224-STOP.
For now, Mendoza's family and investigators are left waiting on a case that has sat cold since 2010, with a reward now stretching years into the future as the only new development in a case that has otherwise gone quiet.
