San Antonio police are asking for the public's help locating Esmeralda Ruiz, who was last seen Tuesday on the city's Southeast Side. A missing-persons report placed her in the 4000 block of Anton Drive, near Southeast Military Drive, before she disappeared.
According to KSAT, San Antonio police issued the appeal after Ruiz was reported missing from the Anton Drive area. The outlet reports that no age was listed for Ruiz in the missing-persons report, leaving that detail unknown.
What Police Know So Far
The missing-persons report describes Ruiz as 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds, per the same report. She has brown eyes and curly, shoulder-length brown hair, and the report notes she is right-handed.
Ruiz was last seen on the Southeast Side.
How to Help
Texas law sets specific steps for cases involving missing children: police must immediately begin an investigation, and within two hours enter the child’s information into state systems and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; entry into the national missing-person database is required if the child meets its criteria. The law also requires agencies to share the report with nearby law enforcement agencies within 48 hours.
The San Antonio Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit handles missing-person cases and juvenile runaways, and the city says there is no waiting period to report someone missing. The city directs people to report a disappearance to the law enforcement agency where the person was last seen. SAPD lists the unit’s number as 210-207-7660.
San Antonio police have asked the public for help locating Ruiz. Investigators have not released further updates on the search as of Thursday.
