A motorist died Monday after crashing into an unspecified object on a residential street on the west end of San Jacinto, and the stretch of Sundew Way where it happened was shut down for hours while investigators worked the scene. Patrol deputies and paramedics arrived within minutes of the crash but found the victim in grave condition, according to sheriff’s officials.
Riverside County sheriff’s deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station responded to the 1100 block of Sundew Way, near Orchid Lane, just after 11 a.m. Monday regarding a reported traffic collision, according to a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff. Deputies found a single-vehicle collision with the driver suffering injuries, and no other vehicles were involved, per the sheriff’s account. Medical personnel took the driver to a local hospital in critical condition, and the motorist later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, the department said. Road Closed for Hours as Reconstruction Team Took Over
The San Jacinto Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and assumed the investigation, the sheriff’s office said. The probe required a temporary closure of Sundew Way between Lilac Road and Bramble Way, and MyNewsLA.com reported the street was shut down for hours while a preliminary investigation was conducted during the closure. The road has since reopened, according to the sheriff’s statement.
The driver’s identity has not been disclosed, and the sheriff’s office said it is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The exact cause of the collision also remains under investigation, and authorities said no further details were available at the time of their release. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s San Jacinto Station at 951-654-2702.
Pattern of Fatal Crashes in San Jacinto
Monday’s crash is the latest in a string of deadly single-vehicle collisions in San Jacinto in recent months. On Sept. 25, a 54-year-old Hemet man, identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office as Alex Mancia-Caceres, died in a single-vehicle crash at Ramona Expressway and E Seventh Street, where he was the vehicle’s sole occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to The Hemet & San Jacinto Chronicle. That crash also prompted a temporary closure of Ramona Expressway between E Main Street and E Seventh Street before the road reopened.
A separate two-vehicle collision in San Jacinto left one person dead at the scene and sent the other driver and remaining occupants to a hospital in critical condition, as reported by Patch. And in December 2025, a man died in San Jacinto early one Sunday morning after being ejected from his vehicle near the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Old Mountain Avenue at around 1:25 a.m., with authorities saying no other vehicles were involved, according to CBS Los Angeles.
