On Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, LAFD responded to a cliff rescue at Point Fermin.
The rescue was near 1 Point Fermin in San Pedro, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
LAFD logged the response as Cliff Rescue, San Pedro, incident number 0493, with crews from Fire Station 48, Battalion 6 and South Bureau dispatched to the scene.
The current incident was on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026. ABC7 Los Angeles reported a separate rescue on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at 11:06 p.m., identifying that patient as a 25-year-old man in critical condition.
Earlier Rescue Circumstances
How the man fell from the cliff was not known.
This is not the first time Sunken City's unstable bluffs have drawn an LAFD air rescue. Last November, a 25-year-old man fell roughly 30 feet in the same Sunken City area; in that case, firefighters reached him on foot before an LAFD helicopter hoisted him out for transport to a trauma center, per the fire department's own alert. On Sunday evening, June 2, 2024, a 21-year-old man fell about 30 feet down a San Pedro cliff and was rescued after a flight paramedic was lowered from a hovering LAFD helicopter to stabilize him before he was hoisted aboard for transport, according to MyNewsLA.com.
A Deadlier Fall Earlier This Year
The stretch of coastline has also seen fatal outcomes. On April 5, LAFD reported a fatal cliff rescue at Point Fermin. The incident was assigned to Fire Station 48, Battalion 6, South Bureau and Council District 15. In that case, rescuers found an unidentified male patient on the beach below the Point Fermin bluffs and determined he was deceased, with the operation shifting from rescue to body recovery using an LAFD Air Operations hoist.
For the April incident, LAFD referred questions about the deceased man's identity and cause of death to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
